The Nonappropriated Fund Instrumentalities Act (NAF) or (NAFI) extends the workers' compensation benefits scheme found in the Longshore and Habor Workers' Compensation Act (LHWCA) (33 U.S.C. 901) to persons employed by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), Navy exchanges, Marine Corps exchanges, Coast Guard exchanges, and other instrumentalities of the United States under the jurisdiction of the Armed Forces conducted for the comfort, pleasure, contentment, and mental and physical improvement of personnel of the Armed Forces.
The NAF or NAFI provides for both medical and compensation benefits resulting from injuries and illnesses suffered while working for the above described employers. Injuries and illnesses covered by the NAF are extremely broad and the Act is to supposed to be liberally construed to the benefit of the claimant; however, the NAF is also incredibly complex and the claims process contains numerous pitfalls that can result in denial of a claim.
If you or your loved one have been injured or suffered an illness while working for a PX or AAFES, Navy Exchange, Marine Corps Exchange, Coast Guard Exchange or any other provider of comfort, pleasure, contentment, and mental and physical improvement of personnel of the Armed Forces, you may be entitled to medical and compensation benefits.
